Critique #3 - The Blue Boy

The Blue Boy

Calligraphy Ink

Breathe and Quality

I had a sudden idea for this piece and ran into in.
Possibly less noticeable, this Parody (VAL) is of  Thomas Gainsborough's The Blue Boy.

I also wanted to demonstrate the ability to use quick drying ink and show an Anatomical stance with the contraction and flexing of the gluteus maximus. Also demonstrating light as it lands across the body. I wanted to reference an arm on the right, without drawing it. Mainly, I wanted to show skills with a hard medium.

Critique #3 - The Man with the Pearl Earrings

The Man with the Pearl Earrings

Graphite / Silver and Gold Colored Pencils

Breathe

A parody (VAL) of the girl with the pearl earring, by Vermeer. As an inspiration for my work, Vermeer used perspective and common themes to comment on the social preference of the Netherlander Tradesmen. While I wish I could have done a black background, I feared it would remove detail from the beard and crown.

To Be Determined

It's a contrast between the cool greens and blues to the yellows and orange. Also, there is a gray-white contrast in the back of the photo.
